Tutorial: How to fix the PS4’s disc-eject problem (UPDATED 13.06.16)

I’ve had a PS4 since June this year and I love almost everything about it. However, about a month in, it started ejecting discs on its own, especially in sleep mode, which is really annoying because my PS4 sits in my room where I like to sleep at night! I experimented with many different ideas I saw on the internet and they all had varying degrees of success for different people, but I finally found a strange but effective solution that has prevented my PS4 from randomly ejecting a disc for nearly two months. I’ll go through all of these potential solutions in the rough order you should try them, but feel free to scroll to the bottom for the solution that finally worked for me.

Review: Bloodborne

Developer: From Software | Year: 2015 | List Price: $59.99 | Buy from Amazon

bloodborneJust a couple months back, I played and beat my first Souls game, Dark Souls by developer From Software. It wasn’t an instant love affair, but I’ve since found myself hooked by the franchise and yesterday I beat the newest game in the series, Bloodborne. It was really nice to finally be able to play a game of this sort that ran so well, considering I played Dark Souls on an old laptop averaging a measly 15 frames-per-second! Bloodborne was a wonderful experience from start to finish that really solidified my love for this franchise. Little can top the “flawed masterpiece” that Dark Souls was upon release, but Bloodborne’s refinements to the formula really do a lot to give that landmark title a run for its money.

Review: The Last of Us Remastered

Developer: Naughty Dog | Year: 2014 | List Price: $49.99 | Buy from Amazon

TLOUIf there’s a game from the last five years that will be remembered forever as a landmark in videogame storytelling, it’s probably The Last of Us by Naughty Dog. I went into the game with the highest of expectations, having heard the almost unanimous praise the game has gotten from the press, and was not disappointed in the slightest. Honestly, if you haven’t played this game yet, stop reading this review and go play it right now on PS3 or PS4. You need some more convincing? Alright, read on, and don’t worry about any major story spoilers, but I will be discussing gameplay elements, so if you’re worried about that, you should probably just go play the game now. Just do it anyway. Seriously. Note: I haven’t played any multiplayer yet, so I can’t comment on that mode at all. I’ve heard it’s pretty good.

Review: DualShock 4 Controller

Manufacturer: Sony | Year: 2013 | MSRP: $59.99 | Buy from Amazon

dualshock-4-blueThis review has been a long time coming. Even though I don’t yet have a PS4, I’ve had a blue DualShock 4 since Black Friday, when I saw it on sale. With it connected to my Mac, I’ve played through BioShock, Spec Ops: The Line, and BioShock Infinite. I’ve also just finished a 60+ hour playthrough of Dark Souls with it as well (expect a review soon!). I don’t actually own a DualShock 3, but I have used it extensively at friends’ places and will be comparing the DualShock 4 to it a lot. I can tell you right away, that from the 100 or so hours I’ve used the DualShock 4, it has met if not exceeded my expectations in every way.

Tutorial: How to get the Shovel Knight Platinum (With “Hurry Up” Step-by-Step Guide!)

Shovel_knight_coverShovel Knight was released on PlayStation systems last Tuesday, and I’ve been playing it non-stop ever since. I absolutely loved it when I played it on 3DS last summer and have since triple-dipped, buying it on Mac and Vita as well. Today, I just got the Platinum trophy! According to PSNProfiles, I’m the 44th or so in the world to do so! In this guide, I’m going to show you how you too can get the Platinum. Shovel Knight’s not a particularly difficult game, but its Platinum can be frustrating for those of you — like me — who don’t have old-school platforming sensibilities. Though I chose to do it in 4, the Platinum can be got in as little as 2 or 3 playthroughs! This is a general guide, and I won’t necessarily address all the trophies in detail, just the hardest ones.
